10 Reasons To Switch To Cloth Today

It is Real Nappy Week and if there is one thing I’m passionate about, it’s getting people to switch to cloth diapers. I’d also like to throw in there that every person who HAS made the switch through my help and guidance has never looked back.

You see, some people hear the term cloth diapers and get totally freaked out. I am proud to admit that I was one of those people at one time. But here’s the thing, if you are using them the RIGHT WAY, they aren’t gross at all. In fact, they are just as easy to use as regular diapers. Yep, I said it. So let’s talk about the top 10 reasons to switch to cloth diapers TODAY.

  1. Save Money For Pizza: You can get massive starter bundles like one from Little Lamb Nappies for a one time price and never need to buy another diaper again. Ph, and you can RE-USE them with your second, third, and tenth kid! Think of how many pizzas…I mean pairs of shoes you could get with that kind of money!
  2. Save The Earth: More babies means more diapers means more TONS of soiled diapers going into landfills. Even if you are using cloth part-time you could be making a difference for the environment; and a big one! According to Real Nappy Week 2017  stats, one family switching from regular diapers to cloth diapers could make up to a 40% carbon savings. It’s the little things, people!
  3. Say NO To Nasty Chemicals: Between the scents, dyes and absorbing “crystals” I think we can all agree that these things are FAR from natural. For a generation so focused on natural and organic ingredients, WHY do we feel safe putting chemicals on our babies genitalia?? Personally, I like the knowledge that my babes bum is covered in Okeo-tex certified bamboo yarn.
  4. Say Yes To Adorable Fluffy Bums: The fun designs, the bright colors and the cuteness that can only be described as fluffy…cloth diapers are definitely winning in the fashion department.
  5. Say Buh-Bye To Diaper Rash: Skin irritations and rashes are often from chemicals and dyes in diapers so when you say hello to natural materials you’ll also say bye-bye to those dreaded rashes.
  6. No More Smelly House: I’m not saying your house smells, but we are all familiar with the dirty diaper pail smell. Even the best diaper genie can’t always hide the biggest blowouts. When you’re using cloth diapers, you’re washing them so they don’t stack up.
  7. They Aren’t Gross: The biggest question I get is about how you clean the poo off of cloth diapers. First of all you have liners that you can literally take out and flush down the toilet with the poo inside which is no different than changing a diaper. If you do have a blow out or just don’t like using the liners like me, then get a sprayer that attaches to your toilet and bam. You never have to touch or see the poo again.
  8. They ARE Easy: While I understand that the thought of cloth diapers can seem overwhelming, I’m here to tell you they are not scary. There are so many resources and if you start with a starter kit then you get EVERY THING you need to make the switch a success from the diapers to the bucket to put them in.
  9. Try Before You Buy With Little Lamb Nappies: I am obsessed with Little Lamb Nappies (see my post on their diapers here) and even more obsessed with their mission which is to get as many people using cloth diapers as they can. It’s not about the money to them, it’s about getting people changing the way they see diapers which is why they are running a 6 week challenge and letting people try their starter kit for 6 weeks and then send it back if they hate them (mostly because they know that once people give these bad boys a try, there’s no looking back). Oh, and they are a family run business who provide you with all the information you need to succeed with cloth diapers including how to use them and how to clean them. That, my mama friends, is called dedication and something you won’t get from Pampers. Find out more about what they stand for, here.
  10. Happy Baby, Happy Mommy: So let’s see here, your baby is more comfortable, you save money, you save the earth, you don’t worry about diaper rash and your baby looks hella cute in his/her styling diapers. OH, and you can try them out risk free. Now, someone tell me what’s holding you back!!

Let me know what questions you have about cloth diapers and what has been holding you back and I will FIND you an answer. If you want to jump into cloth but just feel overwhelmed, message me and let’s chat. If it’s the “my husband would never do it,” excuse, I dare you to talk to him about it tonight. If you don’t want to wash the diapers then look into washing services in your area. People, give cloth a chance. That’s what this is all about!

I have partnered with Little Lamb Nappies to create this post, but as always, thoughts and opinions are my own and based on truthful and real life experimentation and love of their product!

Always,

Alexie

Do you think a 2 year old is too old to switch? He’s not ready for potty training yet so I’ve been thinking about cloth to help get him there.

    • atflook@gmail.com says:

HI! Absolutely not!! Actually they say that switching to cloth at potty training age is a great way to encourage potty training!!Shoot me an email at hello@alwaysalexie.com and I would be happy to chat!!

I love your reasons and while I agree with them my husband would definitely NOT be on board. That’s why it wouldn’t work in our household.. I am so glad it works for you though mama 🙂

  • We are obsessed with cloth diapers! Great post!

I completely agree, these were all reasons why I first tried little lamb nappies. They are all true, but I think the biggest reason I love them so much now is that we have never had poo escape from them. Ever. When you consider that it regularly – more often than not – escapes our disposables, and you factor in all the hassle, costume changes and buckets of vanish which that entails, I really don’t think cloth nappies create any extra work for us! I would recommend them to anyone with the space to dry them.

So glad to hear from a fellow little lamb user! We are just so impressed with their nappies and I agree, they really don’t require much work from us either! No complaints here!!

  • Those moments when your toddler comes over and asks you for a cuddle and falls asleep in your arms. They are so few and far between and I swear there is nothing sweeter. In the midst of the terrible twos, his peaceful slumber is always the reminder I need that he's still my baby.

  • She is all that and a bag of chips 👌🏼 I wrapped all the Christmas presents this morning and sat back a bit disappointed because to be honest, there wasn't much there. It's so easy to get caught up in the holidays and the spending and the concept that we always need MORE when in reality we already have what we need. I have a husband who loves me (most of the time) and two happy healthy kids who think I'm the bomb.com. Hudson will be so excited when he opens his few presents that it won't even occur to him that there "should" be more! Christmas isn't about the gifts and the gluttony guys, it's about family and he birth of the most amazing baby ever. Don't get sucked into all the expected sponsored posts of what your kids NEED or SHOULD HAVE to be happy. They have you. They have their health. Just have a Merry Christmas and be happy for what you already have 🎁

  • Dollar Days at the Baltimore Aquarium because ain't nobody got time for $65/person on a normal day! Hudson absolutely LOVED it and Presley seemed in total awe of the bright colors and movement! All around a successful day with only a few meltdowns and lots of cuddles from grandma and pap pap to get us through! I'm enjoying a peaceful and SILENT drive home now! Ahhhhhhhh...😴

  • My little elf girl is four months old today. *cue alllll the tears* I feel like four months is when we're officially out of the teeny baby stage...although she has been in 6-9 month sleepers since she was like two months sooooo...anywho. This morning Hudson didn't wake up until TEN so me and this girl got to hangout in bed and drink HOT coffee and get some work done (which never happens anymore). She's the smiliest, calmest baby I've ever met. Literally I can count the amount of times that she's like scream cried on two hands and most of those were because she hates being in her car seat. She loves cuddles and her big brother the most and still nurses like a champion. She thinks Sonny is like the funniest thing ever and EVERYTHING (seriously everything) goes in her mouth. I always thought I'd be a boy mom but I'll tell you what, I'm loving being this girls mom. And so the four of us will continue to learn together as a family and grow stronger and love harder and now I have to go make a cake because I told Hudson it was Presley's four month birthday and he got a little too excited. HAPPY FOUR MONTHS P GIRL! 😂

  • Advent calendars, Christmas jammies, dance parties to our favorite Christmas songs, and a half decorated tree because I have about the same attention span as my two year old. Yes friends, Christmas is here and there is nothing more fun than when the "magic" becomes real in your house again. Merry Christmas friends! What is one tradition that your family does every year?? We need to start making a few of our own and I'd love your ideas!!

  • In a house filled with so much mess and chaos, it's these few and far between moments of peace that keep me going. Like the real moments of SILENCE where you get to sit back and reflect. As moms we so rarely get any peace and routine becomes a necessity for sanity even though so many of us crave to get away and get out of that routine. I can't tell you that I've found a balance because I certainly have not, but I can tell you that the days when both my kids sleep at the same time or when Hudson sleeps at all, and I get to recharge my batteries...those are my favorite days. We all need those days. Also, I took a shower and washed my hair for the first time in like a week yesterday so I'm on a roll right now. Anybody else know exactly what I'm talking about???

  • My sweet little Peewee, there is definitely not a baby as sweet as you out there. Guys, she is just the epitome of sweet and I cannot get enough of her. Literally everyone who meets her is amazed by her calm demeanor and want for nothing but a cuddle. She is truly the most perfect addition to our family and We are so thankful for her every day 😍What makes your babies special??

  • Hudson's new favorite song is Feliz Navidad and take my word for it, there is nothing cuter than listening to him sing it. Literally. NOTHING. Also we got our Christmas tree today so let the festivities begin.
